Horse Riding

It’s only a 5 minute drive from us to Sahara Trails. Get on board your four legged ride (either camel or horse) and try a bush or beach guided horse ride. Sahara cater for all levels of experience and ages 8 years +. This is a fabulous way of experiencing some rarely seen areas of Port Stephens.

Dolphin Watching

They are undoubtedly one of the wonders of the ocean, and also the totem for the local Worrimi people. Port Stephens and Soldiers Point are blessed with such high numbers of these friendly water mammals. Daily 1.5-2hr tours inside the bay on a variety of boats/yachts, both morning and afternoon.

Whale Watching

Operating mid May till mid November, for a close encounter with the awesome giants jump on a cruise boat, they depart twice daily from Nelson Bay Marina (about 15 minute drive). All tours include a dolphin watch, a bonus offshore island cruise and the whales are guaranteed. If you don't see the whales our friendly local operators will welcome you back for free!

Sand Dunes

For those who want to rev it up a little, why not try a quad bike tour on the iconic Stockton sand dunes daily. For those wanting a little more comfort, personalised 4wd tours are also available. Tours include visits to Tin City, WWII Tank Traps, movie sites (such as Mad Max) and the Norwegian Sygna Shipwreck. An all weather activity for all the family.

Oakvale Farm & Fauna World

Get up close and personal with cuddly farm animals and the wide array of Australian wildlife. Feeding shows are at 11am and 2pm daily in an undercover stadium. Open every day from 10am to 5pm. Hand milk cows, bottle feed baby animals, pat koalas & ride a tractor trailer around the farm.

Australian Shark & Ray Centre

Touch or play with sharks, rays, seahorses and fish in a safe environment. An incredible experience where you can wade, snorkel or scuba dive whilst hand feeding and playing with sharks, octopus, rays, eels, cuttlefish, fish & seahorses. Open daily from 9am to 5pm.

Toboggan Hill Park

Tobogganing, indoor rock climbing, ice-skating, electronic games, giant maze, mini golf, plaster painting, tractor train and kiosk. Only a 5min drive from The Retreat. Great rainy day activity.

Brewery & Vineyard

Up to 10 on tap at any one time, plus bottled specials. Taste local and regional wines, enjoy a delicious meal from the Brewery Restaurant, play a game of bocce, enjoy our entertainment and events, and learn more about craft beer by taking a Brewery Tour (public tours are daily at 2.15pm).

Whether you are an experienced diver or if you want to try it for the first time, Feet First Dive can help you. They have daily boat dives to nearby islands, snorkelling tours, guided shore dives in the marine reserve, scuba and snorkelling hire and scuba diving training. Depart from Nelson Bay.


Learn to surf at One Mile Beach with Anna Bay Surf School. One Mile Beach is a patrolled beach which is protected from southerly winds and large sea swells making it a very beginner friendly beach. Anyone from 8-80yrs can participate. No experience is necessary.


Port Stephens Parasailing take high flyers either solo or tandem soaring up to 150m above the water. No experience is necessary as you are harnessed into the ballooning parachute and winched into the air by a speed boat. This enables parasailers to see Port Stephens from a rare and fascinating angle. Departs from Cruise Passenger Terminal in Nelson Bay, on the hour every hour.

Nelson Head Inner Lighthouse Cottage

Nelson Head Inner Lighthouse Cottage has panoramic views of the entrance to Port Stephens and has heritage displays of local history. It is National Trust Classified and has a small maritime museum. The tea room and gift shop is open daily. Entry is free, however donations are appreciated. Open daily from 10am to 4pm.
